It’s my turn – celebrating this blog’s one year blogiversary! Whoohoo!
And what a year it has been! 2020 has been full of twists and turns at every corner. Nothing is without surprises as we edge closer to the end of the year.
On the blog front, I’m glad to have made it to the one year mark as a blogger. You would think that the pandemic is an opportune time to blog at home. But, when you’re confined with an energetic, fast-growing toddler, it’s very difficult to stay focus.
Nevertheless, it’s still a remarkable achievememt for someone whose not a writer at all!
And so today, let’s recap on the progress made on this blog as well as what’s ahead in this corner of the blogosphere.
Shall we?

One Year Blogiversary Progress
With the pandemic raging on since February, this blog has provided a safe haven for me to unload my thoughts.
I wanted to focus this blog on finance related topics for moms because this is something I feel quite passionate about.
And since most people are confined at home, it’s no secret that online traffic has been thriving from all fronts.
Just look at the tech stocks that have grappled the S&P 500 to a new height.
So while I was stuck at home like everyone else, I have been frantically looking for ways to develop a passive income. After all, what mom doesn’t want to establish a secured cash flow while looking after her kids?
But finance aside, this blog has taught me very valuable, hands-on lessons such as SEO (search engine optimization) as well as the technical side of running a website.
In fact, I have documented my entire newbie blogging journey through quarterly updates:
- Quarter 1 Part I
- Quarter 1 Part II
- Quarter 2 Part I
- Quarter 2 Part II
- Quarter 3
- And now, this post serves as Quarter 4
Staying Consistent Is Key
Blogging for the first year has been full of ups and downs. Besides the nuance of avoiding the current widespread disease, I’ve also experienced taking care of a toddler for the first time!
Baby Bear has grown up so much and the posts I wrote reflect just that. She is now attending nursery school and is fully potty-trained!
And when there are days I just want to throw in the towels, I think of Baby Bear and I kept going! Even though she may not be interested in reading about personal finance subjects in the future, at least it’ll be here whenever she’s ready!
And as of date, this blog has accumulated a total of 67 blog posts (including this one) as a result. Each post has an average of 1,000 words so that’s about 67,000 words published.
The three posts that are ranked on Page 1 of Google search result are:
- Dear Readers, What Are Your Financial Goals?
- Why You Shouldn’t Overspend on Baby Items
- My Breastfeeding Journey
I’ve made SEO as my priority because I really wanted to learn how to get a content ranked highly on Google. I truly believe that it’s a competitive advantage for any online business today.
And so I’ve come to really enjoyed learning all things content creation and digital marketing.
Did This Blog Make Money for the First Year?
Short answer: Yes, but with a big BUT.
All in all, I must have made about $1,000 which to me is a really huge milestone. Even though it’s peanuts, the possibilities are endless.
But truth be told, I’m not aiming to make money as the primary goal for this blog. It’s not fun to write about subjects that doesn’t interest me with the sole purpose of making money. That’s why I feel like this is still more of a hobby blog.
However, I do think that it’s a great bonus to make enough money to cover the start-up cost. And whatever I’ve made so far has been instantly poured back into this blog. Some of these investments include:
- Domain name + hosting fees
- Legal policy templates for blogs
- Email marketing tool
- Graphic design tool
- Paid stock images
- Social media scheduling tool
- Ebook and blogging courses for newbies such as this one and this one
- Virtual private network (VPN)
And the crazy thing is that the bigger this blog grows in terms of traffic, the more it’ll cost to maintain.
This is something I haven’t thought about prior to starting this blog.
But now that it’s in place, I feel quite empowered to keep it going.

So What’s Next?
In the coming months, I planned to revamp this site so that the contents are more structurally organized.
Since there are more posts, I now have a better idea of what this blog is really about. It is strange to say, but it’s really hard to figure out what your blog is truly about until you’ve executed on your ideas.
And after one year, I can better position this blog in a way that could better help others.
Furthermore, I’ve found that posting once a week to be the right amount of work for my plate of responsibilities. I have wanted to write twice a week, but it’s just not doable for my little brain. So in the interest of staying consistent, I’ll stick with the once a week post until further notice.
I also want to develop a schedule for newsletter – something I’m not the best at. This will be the new goal for 2021!
And as for the blogging quarterly updates, I think this will be the final one. There’s really not much to report on as everything is now set in operational mode.
I may do some random posts related to blogging and entrepreneurship, but it won’t be in a quarterly update fashion. I truly find that newbie blogger experience to be more eye-opening hence I’ve documented my first year blogging journey.
I hope it has been interesting or useful for those of you who are just starting out (and feedbacks are welcome from experienced bloggers). Let me know what you’d like to read more in this blog in the future!
Happy Blogiversary! Consistency is definitely a huge factor and will pay off in the end.
